FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fundamental... Oversights in MathematicsThe Fundaments of Mathematics are Forgotten or Ignored When The Question of Inconsistency Comes up, Primarily in Set Theory2002 Feb 12 Set Theory and logic are considered to be the primary foundational theories of Mathematics, even more fundamental than arithmetic. When faced with prima facie evidence of the inconsistency of set theory, the psychology of the situation is such that mathematicians will fail to examine the evidence in light of the fundamental formal definitions of “theory”, “consistency”, “inconsistency”, and even “definition”.
